I am Stephen Joshua Torres & I am 23 from New Mexico. My journey to CCS was not a straight & clear path, even though I always new I wanted to design cars. Since I came from such a small town with so little options, I did not think I could amount to doing much. I attended University of New Mexico & expanded my mind with courses in Sociology, CAD, & Architecture. I finished my year having done a TED talk and I won a product design competition by Autodesk with strengthened my interest in presenting my design work. Finally, a mentor told me “You know what you want to do, so do it.” and so, I applied to the Transportation Design program. Post freshman year, I received the Keith E. Crain Transportation Design Scholarship, & my sophomore year, the George Moon Memorial Scholarship. I had the opportunity to design military vehicles for TARDEC & participate in amazing automotive events. I learned much more about purpose & reason to design than I had ever imagined, thinking I would just ‘sketch’ sick cars every day. I also received a Comerica Bank Scholarship for my Business concentration work, my final year. I have received numerous interests throughout my time here, so I am hopeful for my future opportunities and ready to embrace all there is to come. I have my mentors, my girlfriend, & most of all my parents for all they have supported & pushed me to do.
