Recognizing CCS Heroes: Week of 8/24/20
August 24, 2020Paying tribute to those on campus that are making a difference…
Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, CCS has gone through a variety of changes. Moving to offer the option of remote learning, preparing campus with all the required safety measures, bringing our students, faculty and staff back to campus with confidence, and so much more, was (and still is) a massive undertaking. With all of the incredible and committed employees we have at CCS, it is no surprise that many have shined during this time of uncertainty and change.
To that end, we will honor our employees who have gone above and beyond to help the CCS community stay on track in the face of a global pandemic. We encourage you to nominate your CCS Hero here.
Kathy Covyeau
Facilities Coordinator
Melissa Sawicki
Ford Campus Team Leader
The Ford Campus is just as beautiful as it was pre-pandemic, but now it’s safer and more welcoming than ever and we have both Melissa, Kathy and the entire Ford Campus crew to thank for this.
Melissa has gone above and beyond her normal work schedule to ensure that Ford Campus is ready for students, faculty and staff. She’s helped with the construction and installation of countless plexiglass shields, organized classrooms and offices for social distancing, installed stickers and signage to comply with CDC/WHO, ordered and installed filters so we can all breath easy and on top of all of this, she has maintained the beauty of Ford Campus, made all necessary building repairs in the ACB to welcome students and took the lead on the organizing and distribution of all the PPE for both campuses.
Kathy, despite working from home, hasn’t missed a beat. She’s been the College’s personal PPE agent, spending weeks on end searching for, ordering and stockpiling all of the PPE needed to make for a safe return to CCS. And not only did she find the products we all need, she took it a step further and saved the College money by finding the best deals. She’s led the ordering of surgical masks, KN-95 masks, face shields, disinfectant stations, electrostatic sprayers, signage, stanchions, walls and so much more.
 Willie Hahn
Maintenance Staff, Taubman Center
 Marcy Parzych
Maintenance Staff, Taubman Center
A global pandemic doesn’t stop Willie and Marcy. In fact, they’ve both worked above and beyond their everyday duties to ensure all who enter the Taubman Center are doing so in the safest way possible. They’re always ready to tackle the problem, regardless of how complicated. Together they’ve led the construction and installation of countless custom desk shields, drywalled the new 7th floor VR lab prior to classes starting and even saved $30k worth of food from going to waste. Marcy and Willie always made themselves available to come to campus, on a moment’s notice when the building had emergencies that needed tending to. They both show the utmost dedication to CCS and for that we thank them.
