CCS Thrilled to Sponsor First Ever Mighty Real / QUEER DETROIT
May 27, 2022The College for Creative Studies (CCS) is proud to announce its sponsorship of the very first Mighty Real / Queer Detroit, an art exhibition displaying over 700 works of art by over 150 queer artists. MR / QD is a city-wide exhibition devoted to 77 years (1945-2022) of Detroit LGBTQ+ art.
This month-long examination of the diversity of the LGBTQ+ community and its longtime allies has dozens of CCS students, faculty, alumni and friends involved in one way or another including exhibiting artists, alumni and faculty Brian Buczack, Feather Chiaverini, Aki Choklat, Karianne Spens-Hanna, Darrin Marzorati, Jeremy Noonan, Scott Northrup, Leslie Ann Piling, Ackeem Salmon, and Charzette Torrence, as well as curation by faculty Jetshri Bhadviya, brand design by alumnus Joshua A. Smith, and alumna Dalia Reyes sits on the Board of Directors.
In addition, Kresge Arts in Detroit, which is administered by CCS, is pleased to collaborate with MRQD to ensure each participating artist is compensated. KAID recognizes that a fundamental change in the working conditions for artists is long overdue and that artists should be paid for their work. With a rich history of labor organizing and cultural production, Detroit is perfectly suited to lead this change.
The MR / QD exhibition opens June 3 and runs through June 30 in multiple locations in Detroit. For event details and locations visit MR / QD at https://mrqd.org/.
