The Chairs’ Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
We are dedicated to creating an environment that supports and advances a diverse and equitable campus culture. We value our rich campus diversity and strive to cultivate an environment where ideas and contributions can flourish.
CCS is committed to fostering a diverse learning environment inclusive of race, color, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, disability, national origin, genetics, age, physical attributes, religion, veteran status, marital or familial status. As a part of the larger college and Detroit art and design communities, we invite open conversation and engagement with all of our stakeholders, including students, faculty, staff, alumni, industry partners, and community collaborators.
CCS considers our campus community diversity a strength and critical to its educational mission. We embrace the notion of an artistic community enriched and enhanced by all dimensions of diversity. We are especially committed to fostering equity and inclusion for populations that have been systematically marginalized by institutions in our city, state, and country, including historically underserved and/or excluded groups.
The actions we continue to witness have further emphasized the need for us to engage with each other and the world outside our classroom and college community as socially engaged designers and artist citizens. Together, we will create and develop a culture within which we all may thrive.
Health & Safety
At this time, the department is also placing an essential emphasis on health and safety in light of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Please make yourself aware of and follow all COVID-19 mitigation efforts on- and off-campus—wearing masks on CCS grounds at all times, practicing social distancing, and self-monitoring/reporting of your physical health. Additional information is posted in your Blackboard courses, and on the main college website. PPE and bottled water, if needed, are available in the Campus Safety Office on the Ford Campus and the front desks of the Walter B. Ford II and Taubman Center Buildings.
All CCS Departments adhere to all of the CCS policies stated above.
