Project Information

RideRight is an innovative solution designed to assist cyclists in preventing knee pain, a common issue faced by many cycling enthusiasts. By focusing on one of the key causes of this discomfort which is improper cycling posture. RideRight offers a proactive approach to enhance the cycling experience.

Phase 1

Research

About this Phase

The global cycling market is expected to experience a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 8.2% in the next eight years.

About 84.4% of cyclists reported experiencing cycling injuries, and among those, the majority were overuse injuries. – Marc 2013 The knee is the most common overuse injury site in the cyclist. Knee injuries account for 62% of all overuse injuries in professional.

01. Posture is highly correlated with cycling knee pain
02. Cycling knee pain mostly occurs while climbing hills because it places extra strain on the knees
03. It is better to maintain a cycling cadence of 70-90 revolutions per minute (RPM) to avoid knee pain

Phase 2

Problem Definition

About this Phase

How can we help cyclists prevent cycling knee pain?

By providing real-time feedback on the cyclist’s posture, RideRight helps the cyclist adjust their position and prevent cycling knee pain. “None of the cycling knee pain causes chronic lasting damage, but if you don’t resolve the positional destined to slowly get worse. – Bike fitting expert Neil Stanbury” “You train hard, and it starts hurting, then you train harder, and it hurts even more until you reach a plateau in your training. – Bike fitting expert Neil Stanbury”

Phase 3

Ideation

About this Phase

During the ideation phase, after gathering various insights, I embarked on an intensive brainstorming process.

To bring my ideas to life, I created several mockups, employing Arduino for hardware prototyping and iOS programming for the software interface. This hands-on approach with Arduino allowed me to experiment with different configurations and understand the practical aspects of integrating technology into cycling. Simultaneously, developing the iOS application enabled me to design a user-friendly interface that could effectively communicate real-time posture feedback to cyclists. These mockups served as preliminary models, providing a tangible glimpse into how the RideRight concept could function in a real-world scenario.
