CCS Students Tackle Sustainability in Sponsored Studios

April 20, 2024

During the fall 2023 semester, CCS hosted a series of sustainability-focused sponsored studios. These studios provided students with unique opportunities to collaborate with industry leaders and address real-world pressing environmental challenges through innovative design solutions.

BFA Communication Design and Product Design students partnered with Midea to reimagine concepts for the U.S. dishwasher market. Focusing on enhancing user experience, accessibility, and product sustainability, students delved into innovative design solutions aimed at reducing environmental impact, while improving functionality.

Transportation Design graduate and undergraduate students were challenged by the American Chemistry Council (ACC) to design electric vehicles in a fully circular economy that integrated plastics and polymer composites. These vehicles were conceptualized to address the evolving needs of urban transportation in 2050, showcasing the potential impact of sustainable materials and the deconstruction process in daily life.

BFA Transportation Design students undertook the task of designing affordable and joyful electric vehicles tailored for Gen Z consumers within the Honda or Acura brand for the year 2035. This studio sought to envision the future of mobility while prioritizing sustainability and consumer preferences.

BFA Interior Design students collaborated with Karastan to develop carpet designs inspired by biophilic design concepts.

These sponsored studios provided CCS students with invaluable opportunities to apply their innovative design skills to tackle pressing sustainability challenges and drive positive changes in the design industry.
